On the morning of the press conference at Don Sánchez Restaurant, amid coffees and blue folders, host Ian Hernández welcomed everyone and revealed the information that would set the tone for the entire meeting:
"Running together will make a difference in this third recreational race organized by CPS Media and Saint Luke's Hospitals."
Seated at the tables were key figures from the organization and invited authorities:
- Lic. Amparo García Godoy, regional director of CPS Media Los Cabos.
- Rodrigo Flores, Sales Manager, CPS Media La Paz and Los Cabos.
- Ana Gabriela Navarro, municipal director of tourism.
- Emilio Alejandro Lucero, of Comprehensive Risk Management, representing Civil Protection.
- Kenia Beltrán y Blanca M. López Martínez, from Sistema Municipal DIF Los Cabos.
- Lic. Nathia Peruyero, responsible for coordinating legal advice for older adults.
- Mario Garza, Paramedic and Ambulance Coordinator at the San José del Cabo headquarters of Hospital Saint Luke’s.
Everyone would agree on one thing: this race is for the grandparents.
A race that also embraces tourism
The first to take the microphone was Ana Gabriela Navarro, who recalled that these types of sporting events are already part of the destination's tourism offering:
"Tourists who engage in physical activities and contact with nature leave Los Cabos happier. These types of events bring the community together and embrace our visitors."
The Municipal Tourism Department reiterated its support for initiatives that combine sports, social interaction, and social causes.
Amparo García Godoy: running for grandparents
Next, the director of CPS Media, Amparo García Godoy, took the floor to explain the spirit of the race:
- This is the third consecutive edition of the CPS Media & Saint Luke's Hospitals Race for a Cause.
- It was created with the clear mandate to support vulnerable people, starting with older adults.
- Beyond the stopwatch, the idea is to build community, get families out walking and running, and show the younger generations that altruism can also be practiced in tennis.
"If you don't like running, come for a walk, bring your children, your dogs. The important thing is to support our grandparents," he said to applause.
Date, location, and distances
The official poster makes it clear:
- Date: Sunday, November 30
- Start time: 7:00 a.m.
- Location: Plaza Mijares, San José del Cabo
- Distances: 3 km and 5 km (recreational format: you can run or walk).
"See you on November 30 at seven in the morning here at Plaza Mijares," Ian insisted at the end of the press conference.
With cause: who does this race help?
In several speeches, representatives from DIF Los Cabos and the legal department for senior citizens reminded attendees that the race has a face and a name:
- It benefits the elderly at the Casa de la Alegría Day Center in San José del Cabo.
- It also supports the Day Center in the Cangrejos neighborhood in Cabo San Lucas.
- And it supports the approximately 250 seniors registered with the Senior Citizen Coordination Office, who receive ongoing support in the form of diapers and hygiene products.
"They are very vulnerable people. Something as simple as a pack of diapers or hygiene products for many of us means everything to them," emphasized Nathia Peruyero.
Registration requirements: your donation is your ticket
The official poster states that the minimum requirement is to bring three items from the following list:
- Adult diapers (preferably pant-style).
- First aid supplies: rubbing alcohol, bandages, gauze, and band-aids.
- Personal hygiene products: shampoo and wet wipes.
All proceeds will go to the Casa de Día “Casa de la Alegría” day center and the programs run by the DIF Los Cabos Senior Citizen Coordination Office.

Where and when to bring your donation?
According to the race poster, donations and registrations are accepted at:
- CPS Media Offices San José del Cabo
- Address: Mauricio Castro Boulevard, Chulavista neighborhood.
- Hours:
- Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
At the press conference, the CPS team added that an alternate location will be set up at Benjamin Moore in Cabo San Lucas to facilitate the delivery of donations and kits to runners who live on that side of the municipality.
Route and environment
Sales manager Rodrigo Flores was responsible for breaking down the technical aspects:
- Start and finish: Plaza Mijares.
- 3 km: return at the cemetery, with hydration station and staff indicating the return route.
- 5 km: return at Tortuga Bay, also with hydration station and support staff.
He reminded everyone that this is a recreational race: high-performance athletes use it as training, but many families simply go to walk and spend time together.
Before the starting gun goes off, there will be activities, Pilates and yoga classes, and a warm-up routine with guest instructors to get everyone started with energy.
Safety: five ambulances and medical tents
From the podium, Mario Garza, paramedic and ambulance coordinator at Saint Luke's in San José del Cabo, detailed the health operation:
- 5 advanced ambulances along the route.
- Medical tents at the finish line and at hydration points.
- Doctors, nurses, and physical therapists on hand to deal with any eventuality.
In addition, Civil Protection and Municipal Traffic will implement a partial and temporary closure of one lane of Mijares Boulevard to speed up traffic without further affecting Sunday traffic.
The goal: 400 runners and many stories
In recounting past editions, Rodrigo Flores shared that:
- The first race in San José brought together around 200–250 people.
- The second, in Cabo San Lucas, had around 20% more participants.
- For this third edition, the goal is to reach 400 runners.
During the talk, recognition was also given to local marathon runners such as José Carlos Cota, who has completed the six most important marathons in the world and advises the organization on how to continuously improve the experience of participants.
Partners who make the race possible
In addition to CPS Media and Saint Luke's Hospitals, the support of the following was mentioned and acknowledged:
Puerto Los Cabos, US Foods de México, Misión de San José, Caracol, Garage, Dula, Aqualia, Suzuki, Benjamin Moore, Villa Cabo Sur, Agrícole / The Face Project, PR Solutions, Dumo Labs, Avantec, LGH Luxury Builder, Tribuna de México, Imprenta 2 de Abril, TV Mar, Radiante 89.1 FM, among others.
"Every logo you see on the poster represents a company that decided to run in support of our senior citizens," Amparo emphasized.
In summary: this is how you can join in
- Choose your distance: 3 km or 5 km, for running or walking.
- Bring your donation: minimum three items (adult diapers, medical supplies, and personal hygiene items).
- Register and pick up your kit at CPS Media SJC (and, on dates to be confirmed, at Benjamin Moore CSL).
- Arrive early on Sunday, November 30, at Plaza Mijares for the pre-event activation.
- Share the invitation: the more people who participate, the more support will go to the DIF's day centers and senior citizen program.
Because, as was said several times at the press conference, every kilometer traveled becomes dignity for our grandparents.
